Riverby Sauvignon BlancRiverby Estate Sauvignon Blanc

Pale lemon, light straw in colour, it has a vivacious lifted nose with exuberant notes of capsicum, black passionfruit, gooseberry and freshly cut grass, underpinned by delicate herbal hints and an invigorating burst of lime and grapefruit. On the palate it is medium bodied and beautifully textured, mouth-filling and moreish. This is a very elegant wine, beautifully weighted with delicate acids. The passionfruit and herbal characters abound on the palate, with nuances of ripe stone-fruits, and the finish is long, lingering and refined with the lasting impression being of a beautifully crisp, clean and refreshing wine.

Pale gold in colour, it has a powerful but elegant aroma of peachy stone-fruit with traces o

f nectarine and citrus, and a lovely creamy, vanilla element. The palate is redolent with peaches, citrus fruits, cashew nuts and a delightful mealy, baguetty character. It is a mouth-filling powerful wine, beautifully textured, with bright, well balanced, acidity, restrained alcohol and an attractive clean, crisp finish, which lingers for some considerable time in the mouth.

Riverby Pinot GrisRiverby Estate Pinot Gris

This Pinot Gris is a pale straw, lemon in colour, and highly aromatic; with spicy, ripe pears, peaches and nectarines and also lovely florals, even delicate old roses, on the nose. Perhaps even a hint of cinnamon. On the palate the myriad of spices continue and the cinnamon is particularly appealing. It is delightfully crisp and refreshing with mouth crunching pears and stone fruit. Overall, it is very clean, crisp and enticing with a long lingering, quite enchanting and very elegant finish

Riverby Dry RieslingRiverby Estate Dry Riesling
It is a very pale straw in colour with fantastic aromatics as befitting a premium Riesling. Florals, herbs, citrus and apples, this rich and vibrant wine has it all. It is delightfully crisp and dry with peaches and lovely citrus characters, including mandarin and ripe grapefruit, even a hint of Valencia oranges. On the palate it is very appealing, medium bodied and rich with great acid balance and freshness. It finishes with lingering fruitiness and intensity, the crisp lime characters increasingly obvious in a wine which initially hides its dryness with such ripe fruit characters.
Riverby SyrahRiverby Estate Syrah
When poured, the colour is an enticing, velvety, deep ruby red. The nose abounds with delightful florals; dark roses and violets, plus classical Syrah characters of spices, black pepper, dark plums and blackberry. This is a complex and mouth-filling wine with charming fine grained tannins and well balanced acidity. On the palate it is rich and elegant with the dark plums, cracked pepper and spice combining to give a most satisfying mouth-feel. The finish is long and smooth and perfectly poised.
Riverby Pinot NoirRiverby Estate Pinot Noir
Mid carmine red, ruby in colour, this Pinot has enticing floral aromas, notably roses, cherries and dried herbs; thyme and mint perhaps. There are spicy notes and hints of darker fruits. The richness on the nose is slightly unexpected after the subdued colour in the glass and there are already signs of savoury characters developing. On the palate this is a moderately rich and certainly enticing wine with an abundance of cherries and darker fruits. It has lovely fine grained tannins and great acid balance giving a very clean pure feel to the whole wine. It finishes long and lingering with a pleasant spiciness.

Has classic aromatic peach flavours along with beautifully balanced acidity and a long finish. It is just off-dry and well suited to seafood, white meats and Asian food styles. Drink it young or cellar for 3-4 years.

This ripe, deeply coloured food wine has concentrated black cherry aromas which follow through to the palate where dark berry flavours are supported by soft tannins. Perfect for early drinking but capable of cellaring for up to 6 years.

Dark in colour, with red berryfruit and cracked pepper characters. This wine has fine tannins and a soft finish providing great drinkability as a young wine, but it has the fruit and backbone to cellar comfortably for 4-5 years.

Great colour and aromas of plum and dark berryfruit are typical of Hawke’s Bay Merlot. Silky tannins give it a soft finish for early drinkability and the depth of fruit gives it the ability to cellar for 4-5 years.

A lovely bouquet of yellow peach, loquat and nectarine opens up to a musky floral and cinnamon spice nose. The palate is rich and rounded with a soft mealy character from the extended lees contact. The juicy nectarine characters give the palate a real fleshiness that finishes on a subtle spicy note. Drink now, or cellar for up to two years
image029Jealous Sisters Pinot Noir
The wine has a brightness and clarity of fruit at first glance, before the darker, brooding notes come out on the nose. Black cherry and dark plum come to the fore on the palate, with a softness and suppleness of ripe tannins giving a rounded structure and long lasting aftertaste. Some bright red berry flavours are balanced by subtle spice and savoury characters that enhance the aftertaste and give more length on the palate and cellaring potential of up to five years.

This is  an Alsace style rather than the leaner Pinot Grigio variant from Italy. Pears, stone fruit and ginger are the dominant notes on the palate while floral fragrances are also evident.Food matches include spiced chicken and fish dishes.

A meticulous fruit thinning regime has produced lovely clean fruit. The result is a terrific Riesling, full of minerality with chalky/citrus/sherbet evident to the nose. The palate is full of grapefruit and lime zest etc. resulting in a broad and d This wine is best with lightly spiced food and goes especially well with Asian cooking.
image037Pizzicato Pinot Noir
Aged for 11 ½ months in traditional French barrels, this wine is a bright pinot with typical lifted aromas of red berry fruits and morello cherry.  The palate is warm, succulent and savoury with the prescribed silky mouthfeel and a firm finish hinting at 4 – 5 year ageing potential.Food matches include the range of lighter meats especially pork and lamb while duck and salmon are also favourites.
image039Que Sera Syrah
After a 16 day ferment Que Sera was transferred to French barriques where it fructified for 12 months.The colour is bright red cellophane. Palate and nose hallmark white pepper, bolstered by spice, raspberry, plum and mocha with a hint of liquorice.  Drinking well now and showing great promise over the next 5 – 6 years.


The Wiffen family have owned their Marlborough property, St. Clair, since 1907. Situated on the southern side of the Wairau Valley the vineyard was first planted in 1980 with the grapes being supplied to other wineries on contract. Since opening in 1997, Charles Wiffen’s wines have received some great accolades. Winning several trophies has been a definite highlight. The wines are recognised in the market place for their quality and fruit driven style.

Classically Marlborough, this wine shows intense varietal characters of gooseberry, capsicum, passionfruit and grapefruit. Crisp acidity and concentrated citrus charactures provide wonderful length on the palate.

This wine is off-dry in style, shows classic aromas of pear, quince and baked apple. The palate is soft and creamy, with a rich texture and finishes with a rich minerality.

This wine shows aromas of spicy cinnamon, rose petal and Turkish delight. These flavours flow onto the palate, with the addition of red apples. The finish is full and soft, with great balance.
